Sidai Designs is a design-led jewellery and homeware brand based in Arusha, Tanzania, working in close collaboration with Maasai women artisans to create contemporary pieces rooted in traditional craftsmanship. Combining time-honoured beadwork techniques with a modern design sensibility, Sidai is known for its refined aesthetic and its commitment to preserving cultural heritage while creating meaningful economic opportunities for women.
Founded as a small workshop with just five artisans, Sidai has grown into a thriving creative hub supporting over 100 Maasai women, alongside a wider network of families and partners. At its core is the belief that traditional craft can evolve without losing its integrity, and that design can be a powerful vehicle for both cultural preservation and financial independence.
Sidai’s collections are available across Tanzania in select lodges and retail spaces, offering travellers access to design that is both locally made and internationally relevant. The brand has also completed bespoke commissions for leading hospitality clients including Singita and Delaire Graff Estate in South Africa. These projects extend Sidai’s practice beyond jewellery into spatial design, where beadwork is translated into large-scale installations and custom interior elements.
In Zanzibar, Sidai Designs continues to expand its presence through a growing network of curated retail and hospitality partnerships. The brand is currently stocked at Doreen Mashika, Kumi Zanzibar, SoLA’s concept store on Bawe Island, and has recently opened its own dedicated retail space within By Hand & Story in Paje. Here, the main Sidai collection sits alongside one-off designs within a broader curated lifestyle environment.
Alongside its retail presence, Sidai works closely with hotels and private clients on bespoke commissions across Tanzania and Zanzibar, leading interior projects where they integrate custom beadwork, woodwork, and tailored design elements that bring their distinct design language into contemporary spaces.
Spanning jewellery, homeware, and interiors, Sidai Designs continues to position Tanzanian craftsmanship within a global design conversation, while remaining deeply connected to the communities and traditions that shape its work. .
