For a few breathtaking seconds, an entire nation held its breath.
Thousands of kilometres away, on a glittering stage in Bangkok, Thailand, Tanzania’s Jihan Dimack stood waiting for one name to be announced.
And then it happened.
TANZANIA!
The screams. The tears. The celebrations.
On 10 October 2026, Jihan was crowned Miss Grand International, becoming the first African woman to win the prestigious pageant.
And just like that, the crown was coming home.
But before that unforgettable moment, Jihan had already captured the nation’s attention. Instagram feeds were flooded with her photographs, celebrities rallied their followers, and Tanzanians everywhere suddenly became very invested in international pageantry.
THE LOOKS THAT HAD US TALKING
Of course, we cannot talk about Jihan’s journey without talking about the fashion.
One of her most spectacular moments came during the National Costume Competition, when she stepped onto the runway wearing Tanzania’s heritage brought to life.
Drawing inspiration from the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Maasai beadwork and Zanzibar’s architectural heritage, the elaborate costume celebrated the country’s extraordinary cultural and natural beauty.

It was dramatic. It was elaborate. And it was unapologetically Tanzanian.
Throughout the competition, Jihan continued to serve looks, effortlessly moving between theatrical costumes and glamorous eveningwear. And when the grand finale arrived, her stunning crowning gown became part of an image that will forever be remembered in Tanzanian pageant history.
THE INTERNET HAD ONE JOB
If there was another winner in Jihan’s journey, it was Tanzanian social media.
What began as support for a beauty queen became a full-blown digital phenomenon. One Instagram post featuring Jihan reportedly attracted a staggering 144 million comments, 1.1 million likes and over a million reposts, making it one of the most extraordinary social media moments of the competition.
From celebrities and influencers to everyday supporters, Tanzania rallied behind its queen. And the excitement didn’t stop at the border, with supporters across Africa joining the movement.
The assignment was simple: like, comment, share and VOTE!
And boy, did Tanzanians understand the assignment.
FROM BANGKOK TO DAR ES SALAAM
Back home, supporters gathered for live screenings, including at The Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, where every announcement brought Jihan closer to history.
And when her name was called, the celebrations erupted.
Across social media, congratulatory messages, videos and photographs flooded timelines. For one unforgettable night, the distance between Bangkok and Tanzania seemed to disappear.
Jihan had done it.
For Tanzania, a historic first. For Africa, a crown 14 editions in the making.
The world watched. Tanzania believed. And Jihan delivered.
Welcome home, Queen Jihan.
The crown looks good on you.
